Community Relations
The primary purpose of Community Relations is to provide communication
support services to the administrative programs and offices of the Tribe by improvement of the
community information network and inter-departmental network. This information network includes
the local Tribal community; other Indian tribes; local, state and federal governments; civic and
social organizations; and the general community at large. This task is accomplished, in part,
through the writing, design, and mailing of the Poarch Creek News, a monthly publication. The
department also coordinates and plans special events in cooperation with specific departments
to enhance program requirements. Desktop publishing and design activities are provided for
administrative departments and programs, and for the Tribal enterprises. Community Relations also
works with the Tribal Council in planning and implementing special events such as the Tribal election,
American Red Cross Blood Drive, Pow Wow, Staff Christmas Party and Employee Banquets. The
department is the contact for all civic, social, and educational organizations and institutions. Tribal
presentations and participation are coordinated through the department. In order to keep the
general public informed and educated about the Poarch Creek Indian's culture and history,
Community Relations provides informational folders and brochures. These request range from
elementary school children requesting information for book reports to college students completing
their thesis. Tours are given to vacationers, visiting tribes, and organizations by appointment only.
