Cultural and Archives
This office has two employees who perform multiple jobs. The Cultural
Archives Director also acts as a Repatriation Officer, On-Site Historic Preservation Staff person,
and Tribal Enrollment Specialist. The Cultural Archives Director also travels quite extensively to
schools, museums, military installations, and Art & Crafts Festivals story-telling, demonstrating
Indian food preparation, and other Indian cultural activities. The Cultural Archives Assistant works
closely with the director. They receive many calls from all over the United States inquiring about
the procedure to follow to become a member of the Poarch Creek Indians. At present, the Tribal
Roll is open for membership only if the required conditions are met. We do not have a genealogist
employed nor do we have the resources to conduct any genealogy research for one to become
enrolled or satisfy their personal inquiries. The burden of proof of Indian lineage is the responsibility
of the person submitting the request for membership. The Cultural Archives Assistant maintains the
Tribal Roll on the Computer, updating it almost daily with change of addresses; additions; or upon
a member's death, removing from the active roll. This position also maintains the files on two
different grants and initiates purchase orders and reports on them. The Assistant also archives the
Tribal Elections as they are forwarded to the Cultural Archives Office and makes Tribal Identification
Cards by appointment. Also, the department issues Verification of Membership upon request and
makes certain Tribal members' files are updated as information is received.
