David Gehman

David Gehman David Gehman is a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, and is currently serving a three year term on the Tribal Council which will culminate in 2010. Previously, Gehman was elected to the Tribal Council in 1995 and served as Tribal Treasurer until 2001.

David Gehman is a professional corporate pilot, having safely logged in excess of 6,500 hours pilot in command in several different types of aircraft including Learjets and the King Air series. David has served as chief pilot for Yates Construction, Biloxi, Mississippi and for Magnum Capital of Mobile, Alabama and Panama City, Florida. He has flown chartered passenger and cargo flights, domestically and internationally. He currently holds FAA certification as Airline Transport Pilot, in addition to Multi-engine, Instrument Flight Instructor. David began flying at the early age of 16, paying for his flight training by working for Atmore Flying Service and WATM radio. Gehman soloed after just 3 hours of instruction and successfully obtained his private pilot license at age 17. A few years later, Gehman earned Instrument and Commercial pilot certification, and has since added Multi-Engine Flight Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot certification.

During high school, Gehman gained experience as a DJ at WATM - AM, and FM. Shortly after graduating, Gehman and his family formed Alabama Native American Broadcasting Company which constructed and operated radio stations WASG AM, and WYDH FM, from 1981-1992. Following his time in broadcasting, Gehman had an opportunity to fly for AT&T as an air patrol pilot throughout the Southeastern U.S. The combination of flying and working closely with network restoration presented Gehman an opportunity to work in the AT&T Network Control Center near Atlanta as a communication technician. Gehman has owned and operated a professional photography service providing portrait, wedding and aerial photography.

David Gehman received his bachelor's degree in Management from Auburn University in Montgomery and his associate's degree in Business from Jefferson Davis Community College, where he graduated Magna Cume Laude. In 1981, while serving as a volunteer fireman with the Atmore fire department, Gehman earned Alabama certification as an EMT.

David Gehman was born and raised in Atmore, Alabama, where he lives with his wife and 4 children. He is a member of Gospel Light Church, and serves on the church board of trustees.
