Keith Martin
Keith Martin has been a member of the Tribal Council since being elected
on June 3, 2006. Prior to this position, Martin was a member of the original
PCI Gaming Commission, has served on the Creek Indian Enterprises Board,
and serves on the PCI Gaming Board. He also serves as a member of the
Land/Natural Resources and the Legislative Committees.
As Chairman of the PCI Gaming Board, Martin, serving
in this capacity since May 2006, has helped direct them during a time of
tremendous growth and change. Just last year, the Tribe hired a successful
senior executive management team for gaming operations, secured
financing for construction of Wind Creek Casino and Hotel Atmore, and
initiated a major expansion of Riverside Casino.
In seeing a need for change, Martin ran for a position in
the Tribal Council. Since being elected to the Tribal Council, he helped
the Tribe change the way they operate, by realigning Tribal enterprises.
PCI Gaming is now an Authority, as well as Creek Indian Enterprises. A
true believer in the Poarch Creek people, Martin is deeply committed to
working together with the community for a future that benefits the entire
community. Martin believes that the Tribe needs to focus on long-term
growth and economic development beyond tribal gaming. To help ensure
that future generations will be able to live and work close to home, he was
instrumental in working with consultants to help align resources for the Tribe,
through this research the Tribe has learned that the Poarch Creeks are
highly advanced in their ability to learn and have a great capacity to excel.
With that in mind Martin is interested in growing educational opportunities
and diversifying the tribe's goals to attract new industries located in
Alabama.
Martin understands that the children of the Tribe need
quality educational options on, or near, the reservation. Dedicated to the
development of a Tribal Mentorship Program, he wants to make available
training and career opportunities for tribal members who want a good job
close to home. In addition to meaningful education and employment, Martin
believes in the importance of health care for the Poarch community. It is
his goal to see on the reservation a new health clinic that offers expanded
healthcare. This would include a pediatrician and additional physicians on
staff, assisted care for our Elders and health insurance for tribal members who
don't have it or cannot afford it. An assisted living facility is also a needed
facility for the Reservation, Mr. Martin would like to see this built in the near
future for the Elders.
Keith Martin was raised in Poarch, AL on Indian School
Road. He attributes his love of the community to his grandmother, Elsie
Holland and other family members in this close knit community. A graduate
of Escambia County High School, he worked for local General Motors (GM)
dealerships where he continued his education to earn various certifications
from GM in Automotive Technology. He was a GM employee until August
2007, when he became a full time Tribal employee. Mr. Martin continues
to reside in the Poarch community and is a member of the Lottie Baptist
Church. He is married to Rochel Martin and has four daughters: Samantha,
Jessica, Rachel and Scarlet. This year, Martin and his wife celebrated the birth
of their first grandchild, Lily Grace Rolin, to their daughter Samantha and her
husband, Jonathon Rolin.
